Guadalupe Mountains National Park

A wonderful adventure in the desert near the Texas and New Mexico border, Guadalupe Mountains National Park could be one of America’s best kept-secrets. The park preserves one of the finest examples of an ancient, marine fossil reef on Earth.  The park is also known for its extensive hiking and backpacking opportunties.

My friend Shanna and I stayed at this park for a night or so in 2008, and were able to hike part of the Guadalupe Peak Trail and all of the Devil’s Hall Trail.  It was quite the steep hike, but so worth it for the view.  It was my first time in the desert and I remember the sky at night being the most beautiful I had ever seen; wide and full of stars.
