One of the most incredible aspects of living up in the Yukon for a year was seeing caribou. I didn’t know that I loved them so much until I discovered my connection to them.
They are such clumsy creatures on their feet when they run, but so sturdy standing on their own. Their hooves are large and round to help them trudge through the 14+ feet of snow that falls in and around where I was living.
These are all caribou from the Rancheria herd that wintered just outside of Watson Lake. For my 30th birthday, I got my husband up early and told him that seeing one of these creatures on my birthday would make it the most memorable. I made a blog post about it here: March 2nd, 1983
But, here are a collection of my favourite photos of the caribou of my life.
