In 2008, my friend Shanna and stayed at the Desert View Campground in the Grand Canyon South Rim National Park. I remember having the most beautiful campsite and listening to coyotes yip during the night. They sounded so eerie!
We didn’t stay at the South Rim park too long because we couldn’t do any of the backcountry hiking trails due to the heat of the summer. There was a flag flying at half mast because of some mishap on one of the trails. Serious business hiking down into the canyon. It would be neat to meet someone who has actually done it.
We did a little trail along the rim and were satisfied with the view. The trailhead is 6,820 feet and varies approximately 200 feet. The Rim Trail stretches from the South Kaibab Trailhead west to Hermits Rest, a distance of approximately thirteen miles (21 km).
