I Won a Liebster Award!

I’ve known about the Liebster Award (LA) since I started blogging in 2014 and wondered if someone would ever recognize my blog and nominate me for the award.  It happened! I’m excited to announce my acceptance of the LA! The LA is the blogging world’s version of the Screen Actor’s Guild award. It dates back to 2011 and is an internationally recognized online award.

I was nominated for this award by 33 and Free, a blog about a couple who have quit their jobs, sold their belongings and are traveling over the next two years! Check out their blog!

Participation is optional and you can politely turn down nominations should you choose. If you do accept, you need to follow these simple rules:

  • Thank the person who nominated you and post a link to their site on their blog
  • Display the award on your blog (as a post and/or in the sidebar)
  • Answer the 10 questions asked by the person who nominated you
  • Nominate 5-10 other bloggers for the award and inform them via social media
  • Create your own set of questions for your nominees

So with a little info, now the fun part.

My questions from 33 and Free:

What is it about travel that made you focus on that?
Traveling takes me away from every day life. I get to use different skills and be my other (preferred) person when I’m in a different environment. My adventures in nature are what keep me sane as a person. I enjoy it so much that I decided to blog about it and hope that others can enjoy it with me. Life is all about experiences, and if you can’t travel and gain life experiences then you’re really missing out on many incredible happenings.

What has been your favourite country?
I have been to the UK, Ireland, France, Italy, Switzerland, Austria, Germany, the Netherlands, Brussels, Mexico and the US (34 of the 50 states). To be honest, my favourite country is Canada where I live. I have such a deep connection to all its diversity and landscapes. Ontario wilderness is where my heart is.

Have you learned something new while traveling?
Yes! That I can survive on my own. That you should talk to people to find out about great places to visit that aren’t listed on the map. And to take risks.

Did you have an eye opening moment on any trip?
Yes. I was on my first-ever canoe/backcountry camping trip and realized that the water isn’t as scary as I thought, if I have the necessary skills to paddle and navigate. I had anxiety the whole time I was on my canoe trip.

If someone said that you had one last trip, where would it be?
I’d go back to Mexico. I love their culture, landscape and food!

Do you travel for something other than the actual location (i.e. music festival, sporting event, etc.)?
Yes, all the time. It’s been a few years since I’ve done any traveling. My husband and I have used all our vacation time on canoe trips since moving back to Ontario in 2013. It’s mostly about  discovering the location while we’re there.

Do you prefer nature or city for traveling?
Both. I spend a lot of time in nature, so sometimes it’s nice to travel to a city and enjoy city life. I guess I would prefer nature over city if I had to choose.

What is the most beautiful city you have been to?
Florence in Italy. Mountains and history!

What is the most remote place you have been to?
Tombstone Territorial Park on the Dempster Highway in the Yukon.

What advice can you give to people starting to include travel in their life?
Don’t be afraid to try something new and don’t get stuck doing the same type of travel all the time!

I’m nominating these blogs because I have received an overwhelming amount support and/or help from some of these women and I want to pay it forward. I’ve discovered an incredible group of other outdoor women bloggers.
